Every useful detail should have a traceable source. We keep open data, official venue information, and community experience separate.

OpenStreetMap

Place names, coordinates, and mapped accessibility features are © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License. Our curated NYC snapshot was retrieved on September 24, 2026. Live discoveries are cached, and most become permanent Access Notes places only when someone contributes or reports information.

We translate mapped tags into readable details without treating missing tags as “no.” Nearby entrances and facilities are labeled separately because proximity does not prove that they serve a venue. Import dates are not dates of a personal inspection.

Official venue information

Selected practical facts are manually curated from official accessibility pages. Each fact retains the organization, source URL, checked date, and extraction context. These are venue statements, not independent Access Notes verification. Follow the source link to confirm anything essential before your visit.

Community notes

Community notes are written by Access Notes users. We never use generated experiences, fake profiles, or copied reviews to make the community look busier than it is.

Maps and service providers

MapLibre displays maps from OpenFreeMap, built with OpenMapTiles and OpenStreetMap data. All provider endpoints are configurable for self-hosting. Public Nominatim and Overpass are used conservatively for development, with shared throttles, caching, and limited results. Public Overpass is not a production backend. Nominatim searches require explicit submission; there is no live geocoder autocomplete.
